Entertainment Reviews:
Motherless Brooklyn is a love-letter to the long-held focus across film noir on masculinity in crisis, but through Lethem's source material and Norton's deep engagement with it, something genuinely fresh explodes out of seemingly familiar material.

The Blue Lenses
4 stars out of 5 -- Norton brings all his considerable talents to the role of Lionel Essrog, a rebel gumshoe plagued with involuntary tics that cause him to blink, jerk his head, and blurt out words he doesn’t intend to say...
Rolling Stone
3 stars out of 5 -- Norton is excellent as the usually calm, rational Lionel, who seems to share his brain with an anarchist.
Empire

The Afternoon Show
Rating: 2.5/5 --
There is a good movie in Motherless Brooklyn buried under tons of plot. The moral of the story is that even labours of love need supervision to keep self-indulgence in check.

Planet S Magazine
Rating: 2/5 --
A bloated, 145-minute crime flick with a gimmicky protagonist investigating a cliché-prone murder-and-corruption plot.

Financial Times
What’s striking and original right off the bat in the tense opening scene is the status of Norton’s two-bit private dick as a man with Tourette syndrome, which makes him periodically snap his head to the side and make odd noises or issue forth with a torrent of often incomprehensible exclamations.
Hollywood Reporter
Product Description:
Edward Norton writes, directs and stars—alongside Bruce Willis, Leslie Mann, Alec Baldwin, and Willem Dafoe—in this adaptation of Jonathan Lethem's 1999 novel of the same name. He plays a private detective living with Tourette's syndrome in 1950s New York City. His determination to solve the murder of his best friend and mentor takes him through the Harlem jazz scene, the Brooklyn slums, and into the ranks of the city's most powerful men.
