Rating: 3.5/5 -- The scenery throughout is elemental in force: sparking lava, lapping waves, volcanic dust and gnarled kava roots create an almost mythical atmosphere. Full Review

Named for the remote South Pacific island where it was filmed, TANNA is a movie in which every single shot is picturesque, and more than a few of them are genuinely beautiful.

Rating: 4/5 -- Some sequences sag, through little more than familiarity, but Tanna largely engages and, when the rhythms really click, moves with spine-tingling depth. Full Review

Product Description:

The forbidden romance between South Pacific islanders Wawa (Marie Wawa) and Dain (Mungau Dain) is told from the perspective of Wawa's scampish little sister Selin (Marceline Rofit). When Wawa is ordered to marry into a neighboring tribe as part of a peace offering, the two lovers flee into territories beyond their jungle home. This first feature to be shot on the tropical island of Vanuatu was inspired by a true love story told to Australian directors Bentley Dean and Martin Butler during the seven months they lived among the indigenous Yakel people.
