Edgerton plays Falstaff's drunken buffoonery as an old warrior's self-medication, not a fool's personality. But most of all I liked the fight scenes, which unromantically depict the grim, ugly slog of medieval combat.

Wildly ambitious, thoroughly entertaining and embellished with some snaky moves, Eugene Jarecki’s documentary THE KING is a lot like its nominal subject, Elvis Presley.

3 stars out of 4 -- THE KING has a restless, kaleidoscopic, take-a-snapshot-and-move-on energy. In many ways, it's a documentary about everything, it's a documentary about 'then' and it's a documentary about 'right now.'
RogerEbert.com
Almost everything about The King works brilliantly, from the casting (not least Robert Pattinson as a deliciously detestable Dauphin) to the generally cracking script by Michôd and Edgerton.
