The harmonies they strike in this reality-inspired charmer are sweetly sublime.
Denver Post
Rating: 4/5 --
The Sapphires is a genuinely feel-good film that has grit as well as laughter, and some great music which packs enough emotional power to make the tears flow - in a good way.

Dog and Wolf
It's a joyous affair that's distinguished by its music, and by the buoyant spirit of its stars. They are four wonderful singers...
Wall Street Journal
Rating: 3/4 --
"The Sapphires" feels like a movie you've already seen, but it's nonetheless thoroughly enjoyable, like a pop song that's no less infectious when you know every word.

The real star is cinematographer Warwick Thornton, whose vibrant color palette sets the desired storybook mood.
Los Angeles Times
3 stars out of 4 -- THE SAPPHIRES is clearly a labor of love for all involved. It's also a warm tribute to four women for whom success as performers was just the beginning.
Chicago Sun-Times
Rating: 4/5 --
The clichés are rendered painless by excellent performances from the five principles, with O'Dowd and Mailman particularly standing out.

Product Description:
Inspired by a true story, director Wayne Blair's debut feature THE SAPPHIRES follows four Aboriginal Australian girls as they are transformed into a soulful singing group by a kindhearted musician, and later travel to Vietnam to entertain battle-weary U.S. troops. Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy) and Kay (Shari Sebbens) are four singers with lots of passion, but precious little talent. Recognizing something special in the way the girls perform, soulful talent scout Dave (Chris O'Dowd) offers to shape them into a Motown-inspired soul group and get them out on the road. But when their first gig turns out to be on the front lines of Vietnam -- where death has become part of the daily routine -- the ambitious young singers realize they've got their work cut out for them.
