While the film is not worthy of abject dismissal, as Kasdan is at least trying to give us something that feels genuine, it's still predictable, still one note, and still features two main characters that aren't particularly thrilling to watch. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- No gratuitous raunchiness here and only a few tired caricatures in a genre usually jammed with them. Full Review

Rating: 7/10 -- I'm going to give it a seven because of the two stars. They're so darned likable that they make the film's shortcomings seem unimportant. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- when it comes to insight into being a teen in this day an age, or any of the other traits that set the best high school movies apart, The First Time comes up empty. Full Review

The First Time isn't a groundbreaking film about teenage love, but it's cute and funny, and may spark good feelings of nostalgia for your high school years, even if you, like Aubrey, couldn't wait to get out of there. Full Review

Rating: 7/10 -- For a film that's treading the same territory as American Pie, The First Time lends a bit of dignity to the first time. Full Review

Product Description:

Two teens experience their first brush with romance over the course of one unforgettable weekend in this coming-of-age drama from writer/director Jonathan Kasdan. Dave (Dylan O'Brien) and Aubrey (Britt Robertson) come from different high schools, and each of them wants something out of a relationship that they don't have. For lonely senior Dave, that means a girl who's just out of reach; for artistic junior Aubrey, it means having a boyfriend who's supportive of her dreams and ambitions. When they meet by chance at a party, both recognize a connection they've never felt before. Over the course of the next 48 hours, the two teens feel a euphoric torrent of emotions that leave them completely elated as they fall head over heels in love with one another.
