Entertainment Reviews:
Passon makes the creepy stuff too low-key, less a case of building dread than growing impatience.

Allows Passon to work with a larger, more complex canvas while still displaying her intuitive understanding of women seeking to overthrow repression and societal expectation.

Rating: 3/5 --
The film has engaging performances and some fine costume work, in particular. As written, though, while the novel's events make the jump to the screen, the spirit of the eerie prose is lost in translation.

More concerned with eccentricities and atmospherics than building genuine tension, this uneven adaptation winds up dreary and dull.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle relies less on outright scares than on the creeping, oppressive sense that all is not what it seems.

Despite a family tragedy five years earlier which saw all of their other relatives die from arsenic poisoning, the family lives a charmed life in a huge manor house behind a large gate.
