3.5 stars out of 4 -- Writer/director Florian Zeller, adapting his prize-winning, 2012 French play of the same name with the help of the legendary Christopher Hampton has pulled off a dazzling feat here.

Rating: 5/5 --
Deeply sympathetic but never patronising, The Father is a gentle-handed yet powerful film that forces us through Hopkins's extraordinary performance to have an albeit fleeting window into what living with dementia could be like.

Hopkins methodically strips away every quality we’ve come to expect from him....In doing so, he helps convey the full tragedy and horror of dementia: the way it can make someone almost unrecognizable to themselves and their loved ones.

Product Description:
At 80 years old, Anthony (Anthony Hopkins) finds himself dependent on his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman) for everything. Anne, however, is not planning on staying to take care of him as she wants to move to Paris to be with her boyfriend. Before she does, though, she wants to make sure that her father has someone who will look after him. Anthony detests this and tries his best to scare everyone Anne hires. But soon enough, his brain begins to play tricks on him. Directed by Florian Zeller.
