Product Description:
At her peak, Englishwoman Dame Margot Fonteyn (1919-91) justly sustained a reputation as one of the greatest of all 20th Century ballerinas. Nevertheless, Fonteyn maintained a turbulent private life. Married to a philandering Panamanian diplomat, Roberto de Arias, the lady felt torn between conflicting loyalties to her nuptials and the British ballet stage. Margot's life turned an unexpected corner, however, when she responded to increased public pressure to retire by partnering up, both professionally and personally, with the Russian émigré Rudolf Nureyev. Their union led to one of the most legendary ballet collaborations the world has ever seen. This drama from Britain's BBC4 dramatizes Fonteyn's tumultuous yet fantastic life. Anne-Marie Duff plays Margot, Con O'Neill portrays Roberto, and Michiel Huisman plays Rudolph. The supporting cast includes Derek Jacobi, Lindsay Duncan and Penelope Wilton; Otto Bathurst directs. This particular edition also includes a bonus featurette, THE ROYAL BALLET, where Fonteyn and Michael Somes dance excerpts from Firebird, Ondine and Swan Lake. Both the movie and the bonus feature appear in spectacular high-definition Blu-Ray.
