Entertainment Reviews:
Sheen's typically scrupulous channeling of Clough gets the tics and mannerisms right, but also carves a moving portrait of a braggart suddenly out of his depth....Period styling throughout is on the money...
Variety
Rating: 3/5 --
The Damned United proves that Sheen is fully capable of carrying his own film.

One of [its] primary pleasures...is that, in choosing a topic as narrow and parochial as the fate of an English soccer club, Morgan has relieved himself of any duty to persuade us that the events he describes are of world-historical import.

The New Republic
It's no accident that Sheen displays some of the same incisive understanding of human inconsistency and political strategy that he demonstrated in THE QUEEN and FROST/NIXON: Peter Morgan wrote all three screenplays...
Entertainment Weekly
It's more than a detailed account of one man's petty vindictiveness in a bygone era. It's about how our hatred can consume us so deeply that we lose sight of everything.
Washington Post
The searing drama amasses its considerable force the old-fashioned way; it earns its wings by virtue of impeccable performances, strong direction and a stellar screenplay.

The Daily Gazette (Schenectady, NY)
[T]his is historical fiction that continues Morgan's intriguing inquiry into the uses and abuses of power and how personalities get distorted by a taste of fame or success.

Product Description:
After tackling Tony Blair and David Frost, actor Michael Sheen turns to another driven historical figure: football manager Brian Clough. Talented but abrasive, Clough alienates some of those around him, including his rival, Don Revie. When Clough has the chance to coach Leeds, Revie’s former team, he takes on the role of the manager of the country’s best soccer team. Also starring Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, and Colm Meaney, this film marks the fourth time screenwriter Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) has crafted a character for Sheen.
