Entertainment Reviews:
3.5 stars out of 4 -- Throughout, the filmmaker, working with amazing technicians including cinematographer Greig Fraser, editor Joe Walker, and production designer Patrice Vermette, manages to walk the thin line between grandeur and pomposity...
RogerEbert.com
Villeneuve likes to work on a large scale, but has a miniaturist’s attention to fine-grained detail, which fits for a story as equally sweeping and intricate as DUNE.
New York Times
[The film] has no lack of cinematic spectacle -- from its majestic landscapes to its monumental architecture, nifty hardware and impressive spacecraft. It also benefits from a charismatic ensemble led by Timothée Chalamet...
Hollywood Reporter
In an age of fast-moving effects creations, Villeneuve demonstrates that slowness can be suspenseful.
A.V. Club
[With] jaw-dropping visuals and pulse-pounding sound editing....Stunningly gorgeous...
Chicago Sun-Times
[A] majestically somber and grand-scale sci-fi trance-out....DUNE is out to wow us, and sometimes succeeds...
Variety
The present film does justice to its source....The key storyline isn’t distorted or simplified, and neither are the main characters; there are no casting missteps...
Sight and Sound
5 stars out of 5 -- Villeneuve luxuriates in establishing Herbert’s vision of a stark galactic empire in which simmering political tensions threaten to boil over, mystical theologies intersect with powerful institutions and industrial interests, and humanity is humbled by the vast power of nature.

Product Description:
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, this version of Frank Herbert's popular 1965 sci-fi novel is the first of a two-part adaptation. This story covers only the first half of the novel and features Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the son and heir of the House Atreides, whose duke father, Leto (Oscar Isaac), accepts the stewardship of a planet called Arrakis. Since it's the main source of a most coveted substance called the melange, the leadership of its mining industry has been contentious, which the heir will soon find out.
